Visual Wellbeing

It’s well known that interior design impacts how we feel—from creating a sense of safety to energising a space and shaping brand perception. Since the 1950s, Studio Almedahls has been at the heart of our company, developing timeless and contemporary designs in colour and pattern. Today, we’ve broadened our vision, embracing a comprehensive approach to interior architecture to help you create “a better place to be”, using our technical textile.

At Almedahls, we believe that design expression, function, quality, and sustainability are equally important when developing new functional textiles. We work in the Scandinavian design tradition, focusing on clean lines, natural materials, craftsmanship, and inspiration from nature.

Our surroundings significantly impact our wellbeing, so the visual and tactile experience is central to Studio Almedahls. Technical textiles offer endless possibilities to shape a space—defining a room with a rug, creating divisions with a curtain, or softening light with a roller blind. Their versatility constantly inspires us.

Research shows that tactile materials release oxytocin, creating a calming effect. That’s why we prioritise texture and tactility in every textile we design. Organic, plant-like patterns reminiscent of forests, meadows, and natural landscapes evoke comfort and connection, enhancing the human experience.

Understanding the purpose and placement of colour, shape, and pattern is essential in design. Organic and soft shapes create a soothing atmosphere, while graphic and sharp designs can be invigorating and energising. Dark colours are beneficial for concentration, whereas lighter hues enhance energy and positivity in a space.

Visual wellbeing is about; what meets the eye, how colours are reflected, how tones can be combined and how the tactile meets the visual

The colour palette

At Almedahls, we prioritise lasting quality in both product development and colour selection, blending timeless appeal with a modern touch. By continuously refining our colour palettes, we ensure our textiles remain relevant and adaptable to contemporary design needs. Our extensive, co-ordinated colour ranges make it easy for clients to harmonise our textiles with modern architectural materials, creating vibrant interiors or calm, balanced spaces. Like music, it’s the interplay of shades that shapes the atmosphere.

Our colour palette is grounded in cool and warm neutrals, from crisp whites to the deepest blacks, inspired by natural elements like sky, clouds, stone, earth, wood, and metals. To complement this neutral base, we’ve developed a versatile, well-balanced selection of soft pastels, stimulating mid tones, and a few bold, energetic hues, bringing both harmony and character to any space.
