A legacy of nordic craftsmanship and innovation
Almedahls is one of the oldest businesses in western Sweden and has proudly cultivated and manufactured textile design products for generations.
Our founder, Hans H. Wesslau from Gothenburg, established a textile factory for linen fabrics in 1846 in a valley just outside Gothenburg. The company is named after his daughter, Alma, who tragically died at a very young age, and the location of the factory in a valley (“dal”) – hence, Almadals.
The name was later modernised to Almedahls, and while the area has long since become part of the city of Gothenburg, it is still named after the company: Almedal. Today, our head office and manufacturing facilities are located in Kinna, approximately 45 minutes from Gothenburg.
For the first 100 years, we focused on weaving linen cloth, but over the following 75 years, our product range evolved to include cotton/linen blends, cotton fabrics, and later predominantly polyester fabrics, with a strong emphasis on dyeing, printing, and coating techniques.
